I'll just come out and say it, dairy milks and I do not agree. We used to have a flourishing friendship but as the years went on I realized that dairy and I are not good for each other. We had serious commitment issues. By no means are we arch enemies but I will say that we do not run in same friend groups...as in, we wouldn't sit at the same lunch table in the cafeteria if you know what I'm saying. To fill the void in my life (and diet) when dairy and I ended our friendship, I turned to nut based milks. The good thing about nut based milks is that you'll never get bored, there are dozens of alternatives to keep the friendship interesting. You name it, I've tried it; almond milk, coconut milk, macadamia nut milk...the list goes on and on. Check out these homemade nut based milk options from our friends over at Move Nourish Believe. I do miss dairy milk every now and then, especially when my favorite brunch spots only offer heavy cream or 2% milk at Sunday brunch and I'm stuck drinking my coffee black (hint hint -- more places need to start carrying non dairy milks pretty please!). In conclusion, my relationship with nut based milks is a loyal and consistent one, but I'll always have a special place in my heart for dairy...but don't tell that to the three cartons of almond milk that's sitting in my refrigerator!
