Its 3:00 in the afternoon, you have already had a cup of coffee but you are looking for an energy boost. Well put down the coffee pot because in Lorna Janes new cookbook, Nourish, has a great suggestion for an energy tonic that is perfect for quick energy boost. Lorna Jane explains that in order to improve your mood, sleep quality, and energy, that its all about keeping your body in an alkaline state by staying away from acidic foods like caffeine. So in the same time it takes you to get your keurig geared up you can make a yummy energy tonic.
- 1 ounce of espresso coffee shots
- 1/3 cup boiling water
-1 tablespoon cacao powder
- 2 teaspoons of coconut sugar
- a pinch of cayenne pepper
Next combine all the ingredients in a small heatproof jug until espresso and sugar are dissolved. Pour into serving glasses or bottles. The prep time on this is about 5 minutes and it can serve about 2. This can also be served chilled by using refrigerated ingredients. Coconut sugar and cacao powder are available from health food stores like Whole Foods.
