Do you need some new ideas on how to spice up your bread? Well we found some delicious ideas and can't wait to try them. Forget the plain bread and butter, we have ideas that will keep your food intake interesting, healthy, and of course delicious!

Toast. It’s not just a breakfast basic. Consider it a blank canvas, ready and waiting to be transformed into a mouth-watering masterpiece. It’s a New Year, and the prime time to transform your toast to new heights. These tried and tested combinations of savory or sweet spreads have us excited to wake up for a date with the toaster. 

Avocado with pear, goat’s cheese, walnuts and thyme

Serves:

You will need:

  • 2 pieces sourdough bread (toasted) or seed cracker if gluten free
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1/2 pear
  • 2 tablespoons goat’s cheese
  • Small handful of chopped walnuts
  • 4 sprigs of fresh thyme

Let’s make it

  • Toast your sourdough bread to your preferred browning.
  • Spread on your avocado so it covers both pieces.
  • Slice pear into thin pieces, you will need about 3-4 slices per piece of toast.
  • Crumble goat’s cheese on top (to your liking)
  • Add chopped walnuts and sprigs of fresh thyme. 

Sweet potato hummus with heirloom tomatoes, goat’s cheese, balsamic vinegar and fresh basil

Serves:

You will need:

  • 2 pieces sourdough bread (toasted) or seed cracker if gluten free
  • 1/2 a sweet potato
  • 1/2 can chick peas, drained
  • 1/2 cup cashews
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • juice of half a lemon
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons of goat’s cheese
  • Heirloom tomatoes (approx. 3-4 per piece of toast) cut in halves.
  • Balsamic vinegar
  • Fresh basil

Let’s make it

  • Roast or boil your sweet potato until soft in the middle. Once cool, blend in a food processor with chickpeas, cashews, garlic, olive oil and lemon juice.
  • Toast your sourdough bread to your preferred browning.
  • Spread on your sweet potato hummus.
  • Crumble goat’s cheese on top (as much to your liking)
  • Add heirloom tomatoes, drizzle with balsamic vinegar and add fresh basil on top. 

Tahini, apple, honey and thyme

Serves:

You will need:

  • 2 pieces sourdough bread (toasted) or seed cracker if gluten free
  • 1/2 apple, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey
  • Tahini (approx. 3-4 tablespoons)
  • Fresh thyme

Let’s make it

  1. Toast your sourdough bread to your preferred browning.
  2. Spread tahini to cover both pieces of toast generously
  3. Add sliced apple like a fan across your toast.
  4. Drizzle honey and add fresh thyme. 

Almond butter, raspberries, toasted coconut and micro herbs

Serves:

You will need:

  • 2 pieces sourdough bread (toasted) or seed cracker if gluten free
  • Almond butter (approx. 3-4 tablespoons)
  • 1 punnet of fresh raspberries
  • 3/4 cup toasted coconut flakes (simple toast coconut flakes on the stove top for 2 mins until slightly brown)
  • Micro herbs (any, we used red garnet)

Let’s make it

  1. Toast your sourdough bread to your preferred browning.
  2. Spread on your almond butter.
  3. Add fresh raspberries, sprinkle with toasted coconut and micro herbs (we used red garnet)
