Q&A with Keri Allison
Posted on February 27 2015
You might be asking yourself who is this person on Dimvaloo's FB profile....
How does she wake up so happy, it's way too cold for me...
Where did she get that shirt?
...Ok, if you're on our site, you probably aren't asking the last question.
In no specific order, we seek to answer your questions. Starting with what we know, the top - it's a Lorna Jane exclusive "Woke Up Happy" tank (sorry we're sold out, good news we have new inspirations every month).
Keri Allison, yogi extraordinaire - this is her photo, she's just letting us borrow it! We couldn't have been more excited about her generosity, but we wanted to know more, so....
We asked Keri a few questions, and here's what she had to say:
1. We've fallen in love with your insta. It has inspired us. What inspires you?
I LOVE hearing that my Insta inspires you! That is the main goal behind all of my posts -- to inspire and share. My teachers and my dear friends that I have built in the St. Louis yoga community are the ones responsible for motivating and inspiring me. I look up to these wonderful women and men because they are always displaying love in everything they do. Through my practice, my business and everyday life, they are there to lift me up and help me to be a better Keri.
2. Will you go through your morning routine for us? What's your best advice for waking up happy?
Gratitude. I wake up and before I even slip out of bed, I make a point to mentally jot down a few things that I am grateful for. It starts my day on a high note and gets me feeling fabulous right away. The first thing I do when my feet touch the floor is begin my coconut-oil-pulling ritual. Sounds weird, but the benefits are amazing. It helps to remove toxins first thing in the morning and I have to say, my teeth and gums have never been whiter or healthier! Next, I take to a warm cup of lemon water; this also aids in removing toxins from the body. After that it's on to my yoga practice and meditation. Normally I will cap off my practice with a cup of coffee or tea and journal down my intention for the day. A perfect and very happy morning, indeed.
I do think it’s important to keep in mind that sometimes life will get in the way and make it difficult to get everything we want done. When this happens, just commit to doing one thing that makes you happy. Having a routine in the morning that will put a little pep in your step for the day is huge. Stay committed!
3. How do you stay active?
My yoga practice makes up a huge part of my active lifestyle. During the cold winter months when going outside is not an option, I will practice a couple of times per day. I've also recently started swimming a bit to incorporate more cardio. Once the spring and summer months get here, look out! I am constantly on the go attending all of the fantastic park classes we have in the city, walking my pups, meeting my friends in Forest Park for some midday stop drop and yoga, gardening, teaching, you name it. To me, staying active is key to being happy and healthy.
4. We've noticed you teach around the STL area. Where exactly do you teach?
I am all over the place, and I love it! I am currently teaching at Practicing Yoga in South City, Swan River Yoga on Cherokee Street, Agape Yoga Studio off of Telegraph and will soon be at Sanctuary in University City when it opens in March (Sanctuary is the new D's Yoga Home). So many great studios we have in our city!
5. What do you enjoy about teaching?
Everything. Yoga came along and changed my whole world, and being able to teach brightens and enhances it to the fullest. If I had to pick one thing, I would say my students. They bring me so much joy and are the reason I teach. I have a love for them that goes beyond words. I consider myself so very blessed to be able to do what I love every day. And for that, I am truly grateful.
Thanks for an awesome perspective on life and a great interview, Keri. You're an inspiration!
