Michele's take on FITNESS...
I believe passionately in the transfer of empowerment from the gym to real life, as I have experienced it myself. I personally compete in Crossfit and Olympic Weightlifting, and though I played soccer for 15 years, I didn't really appreciate the value of fitness until I was older. While living in New York and pursuing a career as a professional actor, I set a goal to be able to do handstand push-ups, so I dragged myself to a crossfit gym - feeling very intimidated, mind you - and started to work. It took me about a year, but I accomplished my goal, and so many others along the way that I never would have expected...and this, to me, is what the right group fitness experience can be for anyone! It is a constant discovery of your own capabilities - things you never thought you could accomplish - giving you a sense of power and confidence that bleeds into all other areas of your life.
This is what I want to give to my students - YOU GUYS -
A fearless enthusiasm and an attitude of "yes I can!" when faced with a challenge both inside and outside of the gym. I have new students who come up to me, terrified that they won't survive a class, and when they get through it... and a month later, are telling me they no longer fear a workout, but actually look forward to it all day... THAT is when I know I'm doing my job right!
